There Are Many Fungal Infections That Can Impact Your Trees’ Health.
Let’s Learn About Some of Them and The Treatments We Offer!
Anthracnose
What is it?
Technically anthracnose covers a group of fungi that cause twig/leaf diseases in various trees. We most commonly encounter it in Sycamore trees but ash and elm trees are susceptible. The disease can present differently on individual plants, it will almost always result in spots or holes appearing in the foliage. It can spread to the twigs and cause twisting and die back. Like most fungal diseases it infects new growth but can infect older, weaker growth as well – especially if the tree is left untreated.

What do we do?
Our go to treatment for this is a trunk injection. Since this disease is common amongst larger trees, a trunk injection allows the fungicide to be absorbed directly by the tree and grow out into the new growth. Think of it kind of like a flu shot for trees!
Brown Rot
What is it?
A fungal infection that is common among stone fruit trees (peach, pluot, apricot, etc). The telltale sign of brown rot will be the grey-ish tan spores and oozing sap as well as brown, shriveled fruit.

Leaf Spot
What is it?
A fungal infection that commonly develops during prolonged rainy periods. This infection affects the new growth of trees such as Evergreen Pears, it causes dark reddish brown spots to appear all over the foliage.

What do we do?
Similar to brown rot, we offer a set of 2 to 3 sprays to help control and protect the leaves from further infection. We spray a fungicide directly onto the foliage right as new growth is sprouting in.
We offer this treatment as part of our Tree, Shrub, and Ground Cover Program!
The good news with all of these fungal infections is that they cannot survive in hot weather so it will often naturally die off during the summer. If you take extra precautions to treat the diseases or prune and properly discard of any infected sections your trees should stay disease free.
