Why Do We Apply Sulfur?
Certain plants like berries, fruit trees, and many flowers thrive in more acidic soil. Sulfur helps these plants form important enzymes and proteins! It also helps plants better absorb nutrients which will lead to stronger growth and flowering.
Why Does It Turn Hydrangeas Blue?
Since sulfur makes the soil more acidic it then allows the aluminum present in the soil to be absorbed by the hydrangeas. This causes a reaction within the cells of the plant that changes the petals from pink to blue! Either color is perfectly healthy, pink just means the soil is more alkaline and blue/purple means the soil is more acidic. Hydrangeas can thrive in either case!
